Yam Yam are Rick Turner and Guy Morley. Though currently residing in Vienna and Brighton, they met in Manchester during the Madchester music scene of the early 90s.

Guy was one of Manchester's most esteemed DJs spinning tropical funk in influential clubs alongside the biggest names like Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay. He was also resident with the emerging talent of Mr. Scruff at the leading One Tree Island club night.

Rick cut his afro teeth as principal guitarist and Chairman of Afro Komono, the Manchester-based African music collective led by legendary Nigerian master drummer Thomas Odeuso. Rick was also engineer/producer behind the maverick 'World Dub' pioneers Suns Of Arqa, who claimed the respect of a generation from Adrian Sherwood's ON-U Sound to the Orb.

Yam Yam had major success with their first single The Spectacle on Nation Records. Using Brazilian blocco break beats it became an underground club favourite - especially as Mr. Scruff produced a brilliant remix. Appearing on at least half a dozen compilation albums it found a commercial niche for US telecom giant WorldCom, who used the track for their last international marketing campaign.

Until now Yam Yam's recording output has been mostly Stateside. New York's influential Codek records picked them up for a number of releases. Based in Manhattan's Lower East Side, Codek were part of the pre-Giuliani party scene hosting world clubs under their Organic Grooves / Grow Global banner. Yam Yam played at parties on the shores of the Hudson River and at the Bowery Ballroom.

Over the years Yam Yam have also been a regular contributor to Big Chill events, and this relationship is about to be further cemented by the release of their debut album, EATDUBAFROBEAT, which is due out on Big Chill Recordings on 12th November 2007. More information is available here.
